FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I get an estimate?
Just fill out the simple estimate request on our  www.mooremovingexpress.com    We’ll reply in a timely fashion.

How long in advance should I contact you?
While we often are available for last minute moves, better to book as far in advance as you can.

Do you take a deposit?
Yes we do , it is Refundable up to 48 hours before move day!

Is there a minimum charge for the move?
We employ a 3-hour minimum.

Should the contents of drawers be removed?
As a general rule of thumb, certain things just can’t remain in the drawers when it comes time to move. Anything that is breakable or heavy should be removed from the drawers and carefully packed away separately. A few things that should definitely be removed from any drawers would be:

What can be left in drawers?
As long as you don’t jam-pack them, it is ok to leave clothes, towels, linens, and those sorts of items in the drawers. Keep in mind that the furniture is going to be lifted, so if it has an excessive amount of items, it might make the piece unwieldy and cumbersome. That said, as long as you leave an appropriate amount if items in the furniture, it can be a great way to save time and boxes.
If the furniture needs to be navigated through a winding staircase or some other challenging obstacles in order to move it, it is best to remove everything completely – even the drawers themselves. The furniture may need to be flipped on its side or upside-down, and removing the drawers will ensure that they don’t get rattled around or fall out.

Can you take down/hang our artwork, TV, AC’s?
At the move-out location, we can generally remove artwork, TVs and AC’s; but at the move-in location, we cannot make holes in the wall, hang artwork, install AC’s, hang TVs, etc.

I am not as prepared as I’d hoped… is it a problem?
No problem.  We will do as much or as little as you like, although the more time it takes the more it will cost.

Will my furniture be protected?
Yes, our trucks are fully stocked with heavy duty moving blankets which are included in our rates.

Am I responsible for parking tickets?
No, we will pay all parking tickets.

Can I move house plants?
Yes, but we will not be responsible for delicate plants that are not meant to be moved.

Are there items that cannot be moved?
“Non-allowables” is an industry term for hazardous items professional movers will not transport, and are those generally considered explosive, flammable or corrosive.

Do you have moving supplies on the truck?
Yes, our trucks are fully stocked with any moving supplies you may need for your move.

Can jewelry and other valuables be moved?
Yes, but better for you to move these things.

Do you offer discounts?
No, DOT prohibits licensed movers from offering discounts.

How much will my move cost?
To put it simply, the move will be the sum of Travel Time (fixed) + Surcharges + Time it takes to complete the move + materials, tolls/parking, COIs.

What is Travel Time?
we not charge for travel time in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or queens.

Bronx, and Staten island we do + tolls.

Travel time is a fixed charge that compensates us for getting the truck & crew to the load location to begin the job, and from the destination location to the next job or back to our lot.

How accurate will my estimate be?
Our average margin of error is around 8%.

Do you offer free on-site estimates?
Yes, especially recommended for larger moves with packing.

Can the movers dispose of garbage and trash?
No, we have no facility for disposing of trash.  Upon completion of the move, we will bag the trash (paper, tape, boxes, etc.) and place it within the building as directed.

Can my movers clean my apartment on move day?
No, we are not equipped for cleaning.

Can movers rearrange my furniture as many times as it takes in my new apartment?
Yes, although it will take longer and cost more.

Can I keep my moving expenses down by having a family member or friend help on move date?
Not recommended.  The crews work as a team and this would only slow them down.

Is it possible to move during inclement weather?
Yes.

What methods of payment do you accept?
Cash, PayPal, Checks and Credit & Debit Cards.

What is a COI?
It is a document which proves that our insurance is valid and current.  It is required by many buildings for a move to occur.

Can you disassemble and reassemble my couch and other furniture?
Yes, if it is simple (e.g., unscrew legs, remove arms that are simple bolted on like IKEA).  If the couch requires removal of upholstery, etc., we cannot.  But we can recommend a company who can do it and help coordinate.
